Studded Belts Let’s discuss the opposite of preps. This list includes a conglomeration of emo kids, scene kids, mall goths, and skaters. Although these are all separate subcultures, they do or at least used to overlap. What did all these cliques have in common? They wore studded belts like this one! By today’s standards, belts are used to complete an outfit, whether to cinch in the waist or add a chic touch to your wardrobe. Back then, belts were ostentatious and included graphics, bottle caps, and these dull spikes. 5. Frosted Lip Gloss Once the 2010s rolled into town, the “dewy” and “glossy” look that actresses and musical artists wore in the 2000s was out. In was the “matte” look. It is now 2019, and it seems both have their space in the beauty industry. Frosted lip gloss would have been unthinkable in 2014, but ten years before that, girls couldn’t wait to buy their cherry-flavored gloss at the drugstore. The more shiny and metallic, the better. 4. Ill-Fitting Dresses Let’s be honest with ourselves; the noughties were rife with ill-fitting clothing. Right now, we are talking strictly about dresses. This is a photo of Heidi Klum, one of the most prominent supermodels in history and here she was at an event wearing what looks like a tin-foil napkin. It doesn’t hug her curves or accentuate anything but how waif she is and how broad her shoulders are. 3. Cargo Pants Men and women wore cargo pants in the 2000s. Cargo pants and shorts were more available in the early 2000s, but as the years passed, that style was no longer marketed to women. That changed in the last two years when more fitted, tapered versions of the cargo pants were introduced. Maybe these new cargo pants aren’t as baggy as their predecessors, but they come complete with the deep, velcro pockets and one too many zippers. 2. Body Jewelry If you go to Coachella or any other summer music festival, chances are you can spot more than a handful of people wearing body jewelry consisting of plastic gems they glued onto their skin. It brings to mind what it was like 15 to 20 years ago when this was popular. Rhinestones, it seems, weren’t just designated a fabric. Perhaps the strangest part of this fad was the teardrop stones. This knickknack hung from the eyeball via a contact lens that was attached to a thin, nearly invisible wire. Dutch designer Eric Klarenbeek invented them, and for a short time in the 2000s, it was something humans sought out to purchase. 1...'
