'Vancouver Fashion Week F/W 2019: Tammi Anne Barker'

'I presented my sophomore collection, Fancy, at Vancouver Fashion Week on March 20th, 2019. I grew up in Mission, British Columbia in the 1980s, back when it had a population of less then 20,000 with gravel dirt roads. As a kid I remember going into town, more than an hour away, and watching in the pouring rain under a big black umbrella Fats Domino and his band perform. I will never forget it. My dad was a bus driver who worked nights. He is a great singer and would always play his guitar for me before he got ready for work. My love of the country, classic rock and roll and hippy folk music, paired with my love of MTV, has made its way into my collection over 35 years later. Fancy takes you to a time of malt shops and sock hops. Sassy circle skirts and dresses with crisp fluffy crinolines as well as slick cowboy shirts and accessories. A striking palette of red, coral, denim blue, black and white. Repurposed leather and cotton and hundreds of copper rivets, paired with a custom bold whimsical digital print designed by my friend and colleague Deanna Rowley, marries 1955 with 2019.'
