'(27 Jan 2016) ELIE SAAB MIXES VICTORIAN AND INDIAN CULTURE IN PARIS Chinese-Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh was one red carpet veteran sitting front row at the Lebanese designer Elie Saab\'s spring-summer couture show Wednesday afternoon (27 JAN. 2016) at the Palais de Chaillot in Paris. Saab is known for dressing actresses like princesses on the red carpet, but this time, he presented a collection that was surprisingly relaxed, with flat shoes, crystal-studded caps, even a backpack. At the same time, it reflected the amazing dexterity of his couture atelier, with thousands of hours of handiwork, embroidery, beading and lace on show. The backdrop for the collection was India during the early 20th century, when the Anglo-Irish noblewoman Lilah Wingfield traveled to see the 1911 Delhi Durbar - an event celebrating the succession of King George V. The lines reflected the volumes of a Victorian bustle, scarves were worked like saris, and the models wore jewelry in their hair like tiaras. Colors went from the splendor of silver to shades inspired by Bombay markets and countryside: argile, grey, English Rose, tundra and blue. After the show, Elie Saab said, \"Mixing the two cultures together, Victorian and Indian, it was a good challenge.\" Find out more about AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/HowWeWork Twitter: https://twitter.com/AP_Archive Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/APArchives Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/APNews/ You can license this story through AP Archive: http://www.aparchive.com/metadata/youtube/fdde7b092f8fbefd195630dfcab8a1e9'
