'(5 Sep 2014) FASHION INDUSTRY REMEMBERS JOAN RIVERS In the intense, high-stakes world of fashion, Joan Rivers helped change the game. The industry she bit into on \"Fashion Police\" but embraced in friendships and the fancy clothes on her back considered her love-hate legacy Thursday after her death. \"For me, she was the most instrumental person because she changed the dialogue in fashion forever,\" said Fern Mallis, herself a shaker as the inventor of New York Fashion Week. \"Rivers was the first on a red carpet to stick a microphone in a star\'s face and ask what they were wearing. Before that, she said, \"It was what\'s the movie you\'re in? What\'s the director like? What\'s the next project?\" Joe Zee, former creative director at Elle magazine and the new editor-in-chief of Yahoo! Style, said there was more: \"What she leaves behind is that you can have fun with clothes.\" Rivers had fun and poked fun in a serious business with a serious work ethic. \"You would love the fact that she just made fun of you. That\'s the whole point. Comedians are supposed to make fun of other people. It\'s flattering,\" said model Coco Rocha while sitting front row for designer Marissa Webb at New York Fashion Week. \"She never picked on me majorly ever. If she did I was like, \'OK, I see it. I get it\' You know?\'\" said British rapper Estelle. \"She\'s an entertainer, she broke a lot of barriers for women. She said what she felt whether you agreed or not you got respect back you know so I\'m sad for her family. It\'s never easy to lose somebody period let alone someone as vocal and as polarizing as Joan Rivers.\" Louise Roe, who has worked on \"Fashion Police\" and hosted other fashion TV shows, said Rivers was \"like fashion\'s grandma.\" \"I will always just remember bumping into her in the studio and I had the honor of being in her dressing room right after her and she swung out in this huge fur that was bigger than her and I was just like in awe and she said \'hello darling.\' I was just like \'She just called me darling,\'\" recalled Roe. Rivers died one week after she was hospitalized after going into cardiac arrest in a doctor\'s office following a routine procedure. The legendary comedian was 81-years-old.
