'(3 Mar 2014) ELIE SAAB GOES DARK AFTER ANGELINA JOLIE COUP Elie Saab was riding high the day after the Oscar ceremonies, because the actresses Angelina Jolie and a very pregnant Elsa Pataky wore gowns that he designed. So did the singer Pink, who sang \"Somewhere Under the Rainbow\" in a red embroidered gown. On Monday (3 MARCH 2014) afternoon, the Lebanese designer showed his fall-winter ready-to-wear collection in the Tuileries gardens of Paris to French red carpet regulars such as Emmanuelle Bart. The collection was inspired by the 1950s period of the American painter Mark Rothko. Rich dark merlot and emerald came along slim cinched-waisted gowns, sometimes in a vintage-looking degrade and other times in business suits. The staple, frothily-effervescent light silks were replaced by their darker, sexier sister in black, with small flashes of color provided by flower prints. The designer packs no surprises but remains hugely popular.
